Mirela Hysenaj, a teacher at “Dardania” Primary School in Pejë, reflected on her experience with the Playdagogy training under PLAY International “Sport 4 Resilience” project, focusing on gender and ethnic inclusion. She shared how activities like the “magic ball” empowered students to express their thoughts freely, listen to one another, and develop empathy. Mirela noted that the sessions went beyond simple play, fostering a classroom environment where every voice is valued. Through Playdagogy, PLAY International demonstrates that play is not just enjoyable - it’s a powerful tool for learning, inclusion, and social change.
I was first drawn to PLAY International by its mission to create social change through play, and I was curious how my role in finance could support that vision. Since joining, my perspective has shifted, I now see how every detail, from budgets to reporting, directly supports meaningful activities in the field. This experience has shown me that finance isn’t just numbers, it’s about enabling inclusion, resilience, and impact for children and communities. Being part of PLAY International has made me proud to know that my work helps turn resources into real change.
I was first drawn to PLAY International because of its innovative approach of using play as a tool for learning and development. The idea of combining education with play resonated strongly with me, as I immediately recognized its potential to not only strengthen academic skills but also foster values such as empathy, respect, and inclusion. As a pedagogical trainer, I wanted to contribute to an approach that empowers both teachers and children by making learning meaningful, engaging, and transformative.
Since joining, my perspective has deepened in many ways. I have witnessed firsthand how playful methods can truly transform classrooms, helping children gain confidence, collaborate effectively, and reflect on their own growth. This has also shaped me as a trainer, reminding me that education is most impactful when it is inclusive and engaging. On a personal level, it has reinforced my belief in the power of creativity and empathy in education, and it continues to inspire me to advocate for approaches that place children’s well-being and active participation at the center of learning.
The most valuable thing I learned from the training with PLAY International was how sport can be used as a powerful tool to promote inclusion, prevent discrimination, and address sensitive topics such as violent extremism in a safe and engaging way. This experience helped me and my organization, “Vizioni Rinor i Shalës”, to better understand how to design community activities where young people not only enjoy sports, but also learn values of respect, teamwork, and tolerance. Thanks to this training, we feel more prepared to support our community through educational sport-based initiatives that inspire positive change.
