In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Play International has been participating since 2025 in the “Pour Elles: Sport & Culture” project funded by AFD and implemented by Expertise France, which uses sport and culture as levers for education and awareness-raising. Its objective is to improve the quality of life and physical and mental well-being of young girls by promoting their access to sports and cultural activities. The project is based on three complementary areas: removing barriers to girls' participation, raising awareness and training local actors to combat stereotypes and gender-based violence, and rehabilitating sports and cultural infrastructure to better meet the specific needs of young girls.
Promoting access to sports for all is essential for empowering young girls. It is also an effective method for reinforcing the learning of fundamental skills outside of school.
Conducted on six renovated sports fields in five municipalities in Kinshasa, Play's activities focus on two themes: gender and basic skills (counting, reading, writing).
Through a partnership-based and inclusive approach, PLAY International contributes to the inclusion, protection, and empowerment of young Congolese women.
