As part of the “Toutes En Sport” project, PLAY International Rwanda has officially launched its second educational kit dedicated to child protection. Entitled “RINDA”, which means “to protect” in Kinyarwanda, this kit is designed to help children understand their rights, identify violence, and promote equality and integrity in sports, in schools, and within communities.
The RINDA kit uses PLAY’s innovative educational approach called Playdagogy — an educational method based on structured, multi-step games that are both fun and pedagogical, ending with a guided discussion.
Through this methodology, the kit addresses key topics such as fighting discrimination and inequalities among children, preventing all forms of violence, and promoting positive masculinity, where boys and girls act together as partners to protect others and foster mutual respect.
Before and after the training, coaches complete a child protection assessment to measure the direct impact of what they have learned, heard, and integrated during the sessions.
Composed of four sports-based games, the RINDA kit invites children and youth to reflect on their roles during play, question social norms, and participate in building a culture of protection, inclusion, and respect.
With this initiative, PLAY International Rwanda reaffirms its commitment:
“Through sport, we continue to inspire positive social change, ensuring that every child grows up in a safe and supportive environment.”
To roll out the kit, 66 participants were trained over two days. Among them were 44 coaches (half of whom were women), 4 inspiring female role models, 11 club presidents, and 3 representatives from partner organizations.
This RINDA kit builds upon the success of the first educational kit titled “Turareshya” (“All Equal” in Kinyarwanda), launched earlier under the same project and focused on promoting gender equality and challenging stereotypes among girls and boys.
By combining these two educational kits, PLAY believes it can further advance its approach:Ensuring through sport not only equal participation but also protection, safety, and respect for every child in sporting environments.
By combining play and pedagogy, Playdagogy in Rwanda enables children to participate and think critically about their rights, well-being, and integrity.
With PLAY, children together with adults become active participants in their own protection.
